When: Monday 17 September, 6pm - 8pm
Where: School Hall, Ironside State School, 2 Hawken Drive, St Lucia Each year, NAPLAN causes troubling levels of anxiety for thousands of students and parents in grades 3, 5, 7 and 9. Schools and students are unfairly judged on their NAPLAN results and preparation for the test crowds out arts and sports programs for no genuine academic benefit. A rapidly growing number of parents are withdrawing their children from the NAPLAN testing regime. We believe every public school should be a great school. Unhealthy competition and mass standardised testing are not helping to achieve that. This community forum asks - is it time to scrap NAPLAN? All parents, teachers, students and community members are welcome. SPEAKERS: - Janine Rees, a parent & teacher - Dr Katie Weir, education expert at Griffith University - Adrian Skerritt, a teacher - Michael Berkman MP, Greens member for Maiwar (as host) Tea, coffee and snacks provided. The event will be family friendly, with free childcare provided by Blue Card holders.
